Jaguar confirms New York reveal for second-gen XF to follow 'dramatic' London high wire stunt

If you thought Jaguar was going to sit down and have a quiet cup of tea after the launch of the XE and confirmation of the F-Pace crossover think again. The second-generation XF is near, the all-new car making its debut at the New York show in just a couple of weeks. On April 1st. Erm... Is that date significant given Jaguar is also promising a "dramatic high-wire journey" for the car into London ahead of this unveiling?

After the infamous am-dram event for the XE don't put anything past 'em! As is the way of these things we are now officially complicit in the pre-launch teaser campaign by sharing with you the scant information Jaguar has released thus far. Which is to say it is "completely new from the ground up and will be the second Jaguar model to use the brand's advanced aluminium intensive architecture." We've only got one stat so far - 70mpg. Fleet buyers, form an orderly queue. We'll meanwhile hold out hope for a successor to the supercharged V8 XFR and -S models.

But you'd hope he'd think that, given he was in charge of the way it will look. "Elegant, handsome and with proportions that imbue a great sense of integrity - the all-new XF will be true to the strong tradition of sporting Jaguar saloons while being completely of its time."

Thus far we've got a plan view suggesting a continuation of Jaguar's hatch/saloon bodystyle introduced on the first XF and carried over into the XJ and XE and an interior shot also. The XJ influence in the sweep of wood running from door caps and behind the instrument binnacle is pure XJ (no bad thing) while the clean centre console and large central screen look clean and fuss free. Full details and pricing will apparently be announced on reveal at New York. Remember that date and scrutinise for press pack pranks accordingly...

And what of this launch stunt? You'll be able to watch it next week on Jaguar.co.uk/newXF and it'll apparently involve the car driving on two wires "suspended high above water" in what Jaguar describes as a "world first".
