Airstream Autobahn is a super-fancy Sprinter

Airstream Autobahn

The truth is, we talk a lot about how great a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or a Bentley Mulsanne or a Rolls-Royce Phantom would be for a cross-country drive mainly because they're far, far sexier than the real kings of the long-distance haul: vans.

Yes, whether it's as simple as a minivan or something more elaborate, like a conversion van, these box-shaped haulers are the undisputed kings of moving a family and their stuff about comfortably, efficiently and across great distances. At the very tip-top of this segment is this, the Airstream Autobahn, a heavily modified Mercedes Sprinter that will quite happily shame any other conversion van by offering veritable acres of space in an S-Class-rivaling interior.

The Autobahn takes the standard Sprinter and adds plenty of wood and leather, along with tech items, including a pair of refrigerators, a 32-inch LCD television complete with Blu-Ray, Apple TV and Pandora radio. Each seat, meanwhile, has its own powered footrest, along with a 120-volt outlet and a USB outlet, as well as the obligatory heating functions. The window shades are power operated (naturally). Finally, just about everything in the cabin can be controlled via laptop, cellphone or tablet (provided there's an internet connection).

As we said, there aren't many better ways to shuffle a lot of people across a vast distance than this beast.
