IT IS BEING SUGGESTED THAT FORMULA 1 SHOULD OFFER MORE TO THE FANS, BY REVIVING THE PROCAR CONCEPT
Back in 1979 Jochen Neerpasch, the then head of BMW Motorsport, proposed a series of events at European Grands Prix featuring a field of identical BMW M1 sports car.
These would be driven by F1 drivers and a mixture of former stars and up and coming youngsters. Niki Lauda won the inaugural series and in 1981 the honours went to Nelson Piquet. After that the series was stopped.
Now Christian Horner is proposing to revive the idea. "On a GP weekend, the drivers have more time than ever before on their hands," Horner said. "It is a concept to be discussed, but why not?”
