VIDEO: ‘FLAT-OUT AND FEARLESS’ – THE CLOSEST RACE FINISH EVER?

AUTHOR: ANDREW CRAIG

The event was the 2013 Firestone Indy Lights race called the ‘Freedom 100′, which takes place the Friday before the Indy 500. Granted, it’s not an event which normally would attract very much attention in the UK, but after you've watched this clip we’ll wager it might earn itself a place in the memory somewhere.

We pick up the action going into the final lap where, after 100 miles of racing the first four cars are pretty much on top of each other. The camera work at Indianapolis is first class and we get some great views of the desperate battle to reach the finish line first, and after 99 laps of strategy it boils down to a bare-knuckle sprint. As the front-runners reach the final two turns, it looks like any one of the first three cars could win. Even as the cars exit the final turn this appears to be the case …

As is our style we’ll stop there and let you watch what happens next for yourselves.

Racing on the edge? Oh yes. Yessiree!
