It's official, Volkswagen will show its very own Vision Gran Turismo concept car at the 2014 Wörthersee festival on May 28. While we knew VW's Gran Turismo 6 exclusive would be based on the lovable GTI, what we didn't know was that it'd be a GTI Roadster.
Yes, the vehicle shown above in the sketches is a two-place convertible that Volkswagen is calling a "supercar." That's a pretty boisterous claim, considering the standard GTI is playing with just 207 ponies from a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder.
Fortunately, the GTI Vision can back up its manufacturer's boasts, as it packs a 503-horsepower, twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6. That output is complemented by 491 pound-feet of torque. So yeah, it is producing supercar numbers.
A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission provides lickety-split shifts, transferring the concept's output to the road via a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. A super aggressive body kit is rounded out by a set of big, 20-inch wheels in staggered offsets, with 235/35 fronts and 275/30 rears. The brakes, meanwhile, are 15-inch pans on the front axle and 14-inch rear units.
Naturally, we'll have much more on the GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo when it makes its official debut at the 2014 Wörthersee festival, on May 28. Until then, take a look below for the official press release from VW.
