Jaguar XE: new image of baby Jag saloon revealed

Jaguar releases a new live image of its crucial baby saloon, in preparation for a complete reveal in October

Jaguar has released a new official image of the XE small saloon. Heavily disguised in a mechanical body wrap, the image provides our best opportunity to see what shape the baby saloon will adopt.

The production version is set to be revealed in full at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014.

Posted on Jaguar’s official Twitter feed, the image is part of a marketing ploy from the manufacturer to help build interest in the new saloon. The mule is still heavily clad and concealed from view but short front and rear overhangs can be made out for the first time.
The wrap showing the skeleton of the platform used on the XE is also a completely new construction form Jaguar. The ‘iQ Al’ aluminium structure will also be used to underpin the forthcoming SUV from the brand due in 2016 and eventually find its way under a range of Jaguar models in the future.
Jaguar is also plotting a new range of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines for the XE. The British-built powerplants will form the economy-focused backbone of the range, while higher-output supercharged V6 and V8 models are also in the pipeline for XE S, XE R and possibly XE R-S go-faster versions.

The Jaguar XE will make go on sale in early 2015, and battle the new Mercedes C-Class and current BMW 3 Series.
