Pastor Maldonado might be running out of sponsorship dollars...

Lotus says that  Pastor Maldonado's position within the team is solely dependent on finance. The economy in Venezuela is a mess with the income from oil insufficient to pay the country's debts, which run to $70 billion.

The government has been servicing its debt thus far by using its foreign reserves, which have fallen by 32 percent in recent months. It is reckoned that the country will run out of money at the beginning of next year. This may be delayed if the government sells more of its assets or if there is a financial bailout from Russia or China.

There may be space for Jolyon Palmer in the Lotus F1 Team line-up next year.
